How Does Recording on YouTube TV Work?

YouTube TV gives you the ability to record and save programs, shows, movies, and sports broadcasts directly to cloud DVR.

YouTube TV automatically records the current episode and all of the future episodes every time you add something to your Library. The recordings are stored in the cloud for up to 9 months, so you have plenty of time to watch them.

There are many methods for recording on YouTube TV:

  • Search: Find your show via search and click the “+” (Add to Library) button.
  • Live Guide: Select the program you want and pusch the + button to record it.
  • Currently Playing: While watching a show, click the + button right below the video player to record that episode.

When you want to record a sports show, the process is similar, but you actually have more options. You can, for example, select a team or tournament, and YouTube TV will record all of the related games automatically. Keep in mind though that there are some channels (e.g. NFL RedZone) that may require you to add the full channel to the Library instead of just a team.

YouTube TV’s cloud DVR is unlimited, so you won’t run out of space. Most recorded content will most likely let you to skip commercials, but some networks may still have ads on their on-demand versions.

Where Are Recordings Saved?

All of your recordings will automatically save to your Library. You can access them from the Library tab from any device that has YouTube TV. Inside of your Library, you can:

  • Watch your recordings
  • Delete your recordings
  • Manage future recordings
  • Filter recordings (by shows, movies, sports, or networks)

Recordings are available for up to 9 months. After this they “expire,” which means they are automatically removed. This way your Library stays up-to-date without having to clean it manually from time-to-tim.
